Why Saffron + Seed?

Trying to come up with an original name for a health and wellness business in this day and age was hard; all the good ones seem to have been taken already. Trying to come up with a name that was memorable and wouldn’t be forgotten amongst all the variations of business names on the market seemed to be particularly tricky.

I’d been brainstorming names for a while – did I stick with my own name or go for some different? In the end, I decided that my name wasn’t easy to remember and the variations on the spelling might mean it wouldn’t be found online. I loved the word “nourish” so looked into which domains were available – sadly not that many and the number of businesses with nourish in their title was high; I’d be in danger of getting lost.

Playing with words, my brain came up with “saffron”. I’d been cooking with saffron for some time, having started making a mood-boosting tea for a client with severe anxiety and headaches several years ago, and also including it in paellas and Middle Eastern dishes for its vibrant colour. I’d also started taking it as a supplement some months ago, after reading about the health benefits of saffron for the brain. It is a truly beautiful, jolly and therapeutic spice and so seemed fitting for a business that focuses on healing foods and their powers within. Orange also happens my favourite colour – so I was sold!

Being a fan of alliteration (my previous business name includes Hannah Wyborn Cooking & Coaching and I also have an Instagram account called Selfcare and Supplements), the “seed” part of the name came to me whilst reading a wonderful book (by Matt Haig) entitled The Midnight Library, the main character of which is called Nora Seed. Saffron + Seed stuck in my head and although a few family members had initial reservations about my choice of name, it stuck in their heads too.

For me, Saffron + Seed conjures up an image of health and vibrancy, of new healthy beginnings and it brings together the two aspects of my business, therapeutic cooking and nutrition coaching.

What does it conjure up for you?
